Courtenay Parrott Sobral is the biological mother of 5 children, ages 12 to 21, and the informal adopted foster “mom” to many former clients and students. In 2011, she retired “in Good Standing” as an attorney with the Oklahoma Bar Association to focus on raising and spending time with her own house full of children after over 16 years practicing corporate, insurance, employment, university, and worker’s compensation law and most passionately representing abused, neglected and deprived children with Oklahoma Lawyers for Children, an organization she helped found and direct beginning in 1997.
When Courtenay returned to the professional and legal world in 2017, she did so as a family mediator as she has always had a heart for peacefully and creatively resolving disputes, especially when families and children are involved. In addition to being certified as a legal and family mediator specializing in divorce, legal separation and all matters related to parenting, Courtenay graduated in one of the first classes of mediators trained and certified as Online Family Mediators in early 2020.
Since 2018, Courtenay has been working with families as a Parenting Coordinator and a Parenting Coordinator-Decision-Maker, different court-appointed roles in which she is able to help families in higher conflict situations implement the Court approved Parenting Plan for that family on a practical level. This is yet another way in which Ms. Parrott Sobral combines her passion for helping families thrive and resolve conflicts as peacefully as possibly with her passion for pro bono and reduced fees when needed to help families successfully co-parent under the terms of their parenting plans.
